How do I get a quote?

Fill in the form on the contact page with a couple of photographs and rough measurements, or call us. We usually reply within one working day with a fixed written price, and arrange a short survey if the job needs one.

Is the quote fixed?

Yes. Our quotes are fixed in writing and include preparation, materials, installation and waste removal. The only time a price changes is if you ask for extra work or if we uncover something structural that could not be seen at survey, which we would discuss with you before proceeding.

How far in advance do you book?

Most jobs start two to four weeks after the quote is accepted. Smaller jobs, such as a kitchen splashback, can often be fitted sooner. We will give you a firm start date in writing.

Do you require a deposit?

A small deposit secures your start date and covers the first material order. The balance is due on completion, once you have had a chance to inspect the finished work.

Do you tank showers and wet rooms?

Always. Every shower area and wet room is waterproofed with a full tanking system, taped at corners and pipe collars and flood tested before tiling. It is not optional in our quotes.

Can you tile over existing tiles?

Occasionally, where the existing tiles are sound, well bonded and the wall can take the extra weight. In most cases over-boarding gives a flatter, stronger result for a similar cost, and we will recommend that where it is the better option.

Do you level floors before tiling?

Yes, where the floor needs it. Large format tiles require a flat substrate, usually within 2mm over two metres, so grinding, filling and self-levelling are built into the quote when required rather than discovered on the day.

Will there be a lot of dust?

Tiling is not a dusty trade compared with plastering or sanding, but strip-out can be. We seal doorways with dust sheets and plastic, protect floors and stair carpets, and clear up at the end of every day.

Can I supply my own tiles?

Yes. We will tell you how much to order including wastage, check the delivery when it arrives, and advise on adhesive and grout suitable for the material.

Which grout colour should I choose?

As a rule, match the grout to the tile for a seamless, calm finish, or go one shade darker for definition. We bring samples to the survey so you can see the difference against your tile.

Can you match existing tiles?

Often. Bring a spare tile or a clear photograph and the batch details from the box, and we can usually track down a match or a close equivalent for a repair.

Are large format tiles worth the extra cost?

They can be, in the right room. Fewer joints means a calmer, more contemporary finish, but they need a flatter substrate and more careful handling. In a small bathroom with out-of-square walls, a mid-format tile often looks better for less money.

How long will my bathroom take?

A standard bathroom takes four to six working days once the room is stripped and prepared. A wet room conversion takes six to nine. You will get a schedule before we start so you can plan around the loss of the room.

Will I be without a bathroom the whole time?

For a full refit, yes, though we work efficiently to keep it to the shortest sensible time. If you are having a second bathroom or ensuite done, the household is barely affected.

When can I use the shower after tiling?

Grout and adhesive need to cure. We usually advise 24 hours before light use and 48 hours before a shower, and longer for natural stone or a fresh tanking system.

What does the guarantee cover?

Five years on our workmanship, covering anything that fails because of how we prepared or installed it, including adhesive failure, loose tiles and failed tanking. It does not cover damage caused after handover or a fault in the tile itself.

How do I look after natural stone?

Reseal every 12 to 18 months for floors and every 6 to 12 for wet areas, wipe spills promptly, and avoid acidic cleaners. We leave you with the product we used and written guidance on handover.

What should I do if a tile cracks?

Accepted Answer

Call us. If it is within the guarantee period and caused by installation, we will put it right. If it is impact damage, we can usually replace a single tile if you have kept the spares we advise you to keep.
